What is hardball?

Hardball, which is also known internationally as airsoft, is both a hobby and a sport under DGI Skydning in Denmark. Hardball, in short, involves two or more teams fighting each other with soft guns . The teams must mark their opponents with 6 mm plastic balls. All players are wearing safety equipment and typically dressed in military uniforms. In this sport, the adrenaline is pumping, and you get a lot of exercise. Team spirit arises automatically during a day on the field. Hardball is for those who are good at working alone or in groups. There is room in the sport for an individual mindset, but there is also a requirement to be a good team player. Unity and cooperation are some of the sport's unique qualities.

What types of hardball games can you play?

Overall, there are primarily four types of games within hardball:

Speedball

Traditional hardball

Milsim

Reenactment

Speedball is the fastest game, often over in a few minutes. The game takes place, like paintball, on a synchronous field, where each team has its own starting area. The clock is started, and each team rolls forward and is in contact with their opponents immediately. This game is very aggressive and typically takes place on very small fields.

Traditional hardball is the most common type of game. This type of game can vary a lot. Most often, you play the so-called Team Deathmatch, which is about eliminating all your opponents. When you are hit, you have to go back to your team's starting point. Each round can have different missions and extra rules. The game usually takes place on slightly larger fields, and a round takes about 20-60 minutes.

Milsim stands for military simulation and consists of more advanced games. Here you typically see a large set of rules, including bullet limitations in the magazines and equipment requirements to achieve realism. This type of game is usually suitable for more experienced hardball players, and there is usually a story to follow. In this type of game, vehicles are most often used, as the game takes place in very large areas such as on defense training areas or similar. These games usually take a whole weekend or longer to complete.

Reenactment is on the rise here in Denmark, but has been around for a long time in countries like England. The game is based on a story, such as World War II, where people are dressed in realistic equipment, and each player has a role. This type of game also includes the role-playing element as the primary part of the game, but where the battles are fought with soft guns . The games here can last an afternoon or extend over several days.

Hardball in Denmark compared to abroad?

Interest in hardball in Denmark has increased tremendously in the last 20 years. More and more courts are opening up around the country, but in the Asia-Pacific region, hardball is far more popular than in Europe. Internationally, Denmark is a very small country when it comes to hardball, and the Danish courts, games and events are quite small when compared globally. A normal game day in Denmark accommodates between 20 and 150 players, where large events can have up to 400 players, but you don't have to go any further than Sweden to find some of the largest hardball events in the world. The large events can attract players from all over the world, and it is not unusual for them to have between 2000-2500 players on the court. Real military vehicles, tanks and even helicopters and boats are used here. These games typically last 3-5 days. In Denmark, there is also the opportunity to experience vehicles such as GDs from the Danish Armed Forces, Jeep Pickups, etc.

The history of hardball

Hardball originally comes from Japan and dates back to the early 1970s. Softguns were built at the time to offer an alternative to gun enthusiasts, as Japanese laws prevented all private individuals from owning firearms. This is also the reason why softguns are such exact copies of real weapons. The same can be said for much other hardball equipment, such as the clothing, which consists of realistic or real uniforms, and other tactical hardball equipment and hardball accessories. This level of realism is not seen in the paintball world, for example.

Hardball is often compared to various shooting games, as you can get some of the same weapons that people know from shooting games. In hardball, there is usually also a mission to complete. We find that the setup and styling of the weapons and equipment is as much a part of the hobby for hardball players as the game itself. You will find on most hardball courts that the players' hardball equipment is strongly inspired by military units or special forces such as SWAT. Their setups are very similar to those of soldiers - right down to the smallest details.

Is hardball legal?

Hardball for children, parental permission ref. to legislation.

It is legal to play hardball in Denmark. And of course it is legal to play airsoft in Denmark. The two types of games are identical in many countries, but in Denmark there is a slight difference. You can read more about that in the next section. The law stipulates that you must be at least 18 years old to buy, own and transport soft guns in Denmark. However, it is legal to play hardball on most fields when you are 16 years old, if you have your parents' written authorization. However, the hardball weapon must still be transported to and from the field by an adult.

During transport, the weapon must be securely packed in a bag, suitcase or in the original packaging. The weapon must not be unloaded. This means that there must be no bullets or magazines in your hardball weapon. Bullets and magazines can also be found in our hardball shop.
There is no age limit for the Airsoft Challenge. This means that all members of shooting clubs that offer the Airsoft Challenge shooting sport are legally allowed to shoot with soft guns, but you still have to be at least 18 years old to buy, own and transport soft guns .
If you have any further questions about the legislation regarding hardball weapons, please contact our customer service. You will find our contact information in the last section of this page.

Hardball vs. Airsoft

In Denmark, hardball and airsoft are two different things. At DGI, they have chosen to create a new sport called Airsoft Challenge. It involves shooting at targets, as you know from traditional shooting. You can also shoot on a range, where you have to move through a range in a timed manner and shoot at several targets. Most often, you have to shoot in different shooting positions such as lying down, sitting and standing. There are usually eight targets on a range. This takes place in an approved shooting association and with weapons-trained instructors. If airsoft sounds like something that is more to your taste than hardball, visit our airsoft store and find your next airsoft gun with us.

Hardball vs. Paintball

In hardball there is no color marking when hit, so it is up to the individual player to be aware that he has been hit. This means that the sport is considered to be a distinct gentleman's sport. In paintball, a clear color marking is made when hit, and thus the players can see whether the opponent or teammate has been hit. Hardball weapons have a significantly longer range and much better precision than paintball weapons. When playing hardball , the fields are typically larger and more realistic than in paintball, and they can accommodate over 100 players on the field. This is not seen in paintball and certainly not in Denmark.

Hardball also stands out by incorporating many more hobby elements into the sport. Hardball players spend more time setting up, adjusting, caring for and styling hardball equipment, and there are also many social elements such as hardball groups on Facebook. Here, players show off their hardball equipment and agree on which games to participate in.
Paintball is very game-oriented, where hardball includes a lot of other elements beyond the game itself.

How do you get started in hardball?

If you want to start playing hardball or just want to see how it works, we recommend that you contact a local hardball court. They can tell you when and where you can start playing at their court. If you can't find a court in your area, please contact us. We will help you find one.

When you go out to play hardball for the first time, it is important that you have some proper safety equipment. According to the law, it is a requirement that your hardball mask covers from forehead to chin and ears. You should never compromise on your safety equipment, and we recommend that you choose to spend the money on a proper hardball mask. If necessary, contact our customer service for expert guidance.

After that, of course, a good rifle is important. We recommend that you spend your money on buying the right rifle the first time, so that you don't have to change to something better later. Save the money on sights, sidearms and all the other equipment, and spend the money on your hardball weapon first. If you have your mask and your hardball rifle under control, you're really well on your way. The rest is luxury.

Commercial hardball courts vs. hardball associations?

Commercial hardball courts in Denmark are a business. You can often find some of the best looking hardball courts here, but they are also the most expensive. Here you buy a ticket to come and use the court and have a good experience. They usually have some very skilled game directors who are tasked with giving you a fantastic experience. The price is typically 50-150 DKK per game.
Hardball associations are usually a group of people who run a field together, and where the members of the association are tasked with helping to run the field. These fields are characterized by volunteer work, which means that the quality delivered on the field depends on the people who have committed to the association's work. The people behind this are usually driven by the desire to keep the sport alive, but at the same time they also want a place where they can go on the field with the sport.

Big applause to the people who dare to give themselves to the association work. The association courses are definitely worth a visit, as there is a very specific spirit here. The price ranges from 40-80 DKK per game, but you can also take out a monthly membership.
