What to look for
Fabric and durability: Ripstop and NYCO blends can take kneeling on gravel and branches, while stretch panels such as Helikon-Tex VersaStretch give freedom of movement when you need to drop to a knee or get over obstacles.
Combat shirt or field shirt: A combat shirt such as the Pentagon Wolf is made to be worn under a vest or plate carrier. A field shirt or BDU shirt works better as an outer layer when you are not wearing a vest.
Camo and colour: Choose a pattern to suit the terrain and your team – Woodland and Danish camo for Northern European woodland, Multicam as a broad all-round pattern, and solid Ranger Green or Coyote when it needs to match your loadout.
Layering: Build up your clothing with thermal underwear or merino closest to the skin, a fleece as a mid-layer and a jacket or poncho on the outside, so you can regulate your temperature through the day.
Fit and pockets: Check the size guide and the pocket placement, so the pockets can still be used when you are wearing a belt, holster or knee pads.
