Hunting Jackets

The hunting jacket is the layer that has to handle the weather – rain, wind and cold – while staying quiet enough that the game does not hear you. Here you will find hunting jackets from Deerhunter, Percussion and Ocean: waterproof membrane jackets, insulated winter jackets, fleece and softshell jackets, padded jackets and classic shooting jackets.

What to look for

Waterproof or water-repellent?

A water-repellent jacket is treated so light rain runs off. A waterproof jacket has a membrane and taped seams. Deerhunter uses several membranes: DEER-TEX® Performance Shell (laminated to the outer fabric, e.g. in EAGLE and RECON), DEER-TEX® Membrane (a loose membrane that gives a quiet garment, e.g. in MUFLON PRO) and DEERHUNTER Stormliner® on products without taped seams. On the product page you can see the hydrostatic head in mm and breathability in g/m²/24 h when Deerhunter provides them.

Quiet fabric

For stalking and quiet hunting, noise matters. TATRA is made from a soft, silent wool blend, and the ATLAS and CUMBRIA fleece is also soft and quiet. Hard shell fabrics can rustle more when you move.

Warmth and insulation

  • Winter jackets – EAGLE, MUFLON PRO and TATRA are available as insulated winter jackets for long hours in a high seat.
  • Padded jackets – MOOR, HEAT and CAROLINE are good as a mid-layer or on their own on dry days.
  • Fleece and pile – ATLAS, CUMBRIA, ROGALAND and GAMEKEEPER bonded fleece. See also fleece for hunting.

Pockets and details

Look for hand-warmer pockets, a radio pocket, a game pocket and adjustable cuffs. Several of Deerhunter's jackets have a detachable hood and waterproof zips.

High-visibility colour

If you are going on a driven hunt, several jackets come in Safety Orange or Realtree Edge® Safety Orange. Several of them are CE-marked to EN 17353. See driven-hunt clothing and high-visibility colours.

Size and fit

Deerhunter has its own size charts for men, women and children – you will find the chart on each product page and all measurements in the size guide. Choose a winter jacket with room for a fleece or vest underneath, and check the sleeve length with your arms stretched forward, as when you shoulder the rifle.

Caring for the membrane jacket

Follow the care label in the jacket. Dirt and grease reduce the membrane's breathability, so wash the jacket when it is dirty, and reproof the outer fabric when water no longer beads off.

Who it suits

The hunter in a high seat needs an insulated, windproof jacket the most. The stalker should choose quiet fabric and stretch. The dog handler and the driven-hunt hunter benefit from a light, waterproof jacket with room to move. Many models are also available as Lady and Youth.
