Hunting Electronics
Electronics for hunting, the range and airsoft brings together the kit that runs on power: trail cameras that keep an eye on the feeding site or game trail, electronic hearing protection that dampens shots but lets you hear your surroundings, radios for communication within the hunting party or team, plus solar panels and camera mounts. The category is broad, so here is an overview of what we carry and what you need to decide.
For trail cameras we carry Spypoint with the Flex-M, Flex-Dark and the solar-powered Flex-S-Dark, all of which send images over 4G to your phone, plus LIT-22 battery packs and the MA-500 mounting bracket. Hunters Choice ranges from the HC Basic to the LPV series with live streaming and a panoramic field of view, and also has the Phantom F1 hearing protection, including a Bluetooth version. You will also find the Hunter OBI One and D-Quad hearing protection, the Denver WCT-8016 and our Scandinavian trail camera. Earmor is the largest hearing protection brand, with the M32 Plus, earplugs and spare parts such as gel cushions, headbands and the S10 microphone. Baofeng supplies the UV-5R and UV-9R Plus radios, and Tactacam has gun-mounted camera mounts and remote controls. The range runs from a pair of earplugs to a twin pack with two trail cameras.
What to look for
- Trail camera with or without transmission: Spypoint's Flex series sends images over 4G straight to your smartphone, so you don't have to walk out and disturb the area. The Hunters Choice LPV models can stream live. A camera without transmission saves to a memory card and is cheaper to run – this is where the Hunters Choice Micro SD 32GB U3 fits, built for the write speed that video and burst images require.
- Power in the field: The Flex-S-Dark has a built-in solar panel and lithium battery, and rechargeable LIT-22 battery packs are available for other Spypoint cameras. If your phone, radio or torch needs charging on the trip, we carry Denver's folding 20 W solar panel and the GoalZero Guide 12 Solar Kit.
- Active or passive hearing protection: Electronic hearing protection such as the Hunter D-Quad amplifies faint sounds and shuts off sounds above 82 dB, so you can hear the game and your companions. Passive earplugs such as the Earmor M01 in foam, M03 in silicone and Ox-On (SNR 39 dB) are the simple alternative, or an extra layer under ear defenders.
- Hearing protection and helmet: If you wear a helmet or cap, check the fit. For the Earmor M31 and M32 there are M61 and M62 headbands, Velcro sides and gel ear cushions that press less over a long day.
- Radio and programming: The Baofeng UV-5R is a dual-band VHF/UHF radio and can be programmed wirelessly with the Baofeng Wireless Programmer. Check which frequencies you are allowed to transmit on in your country before programming the radio.
Who it is for
This category is for the hunter who wants to follow game on their ground and protect their hearing when hunting and on the range. Airsoft players will find radios, Earmor hearing protection and accessories to make team communication a fixed part of their loadout, plus the Tactacam mounts if you want to film from your gun.
