Air tanks
Air tanks store compressed air for two different purposes. For HPA airsoft, a small tank sits in the stock, on the vest or on the belt and supplies the gun with air via a regulator and line. For PCP air rifles, a larger bottle serves as the air source when you fill the rifle at home or in the field. The category therefore runs from compact 0.2 litre tanks to 6–6.8 litre bottles.
For HPA there are BalystiK tanks of 0.2 and 0.8 litres and ASG Ultrair tanks of 0.22 and 0.8 litres including bottle regulator. For filling PCP rifles you will find a scuba tank with carrying vest from Hatsan, a 6 litre 300 bar tank from Walther and our own Storm Air 6.8 litre carbon tank, which also works as a fill station. Accessories include a DIN-to-Yoke adapter and a scuba tank maintenance kit from Hank Tactical, plus a dust cap for the fill nipple.
What to look for
- Purpose: An HPA tank for airsoft must be small and light enough to carry. A fill bottle for PCP must hold enough air for many fills and typically stays at home or in the car.
- Volume and weight: Larger volume gives more shots or more fills between refills, but weighs more. Carbon is lighter than steel and aluminium at the same volume.
- Pressure and regulator: Check the tank's working pressure and that the regulator and gun are rated for it. For HPA there must always be a regulator between tank and gun.
- Connection: Scuba tanks come with a DIN or Yoke valve. With a DIN-to-Yoke adapter, a DIN bottle can be used with Yoke equipment.
- Inspection: Pressure vessels must be pressure-tested at fixed intervals. Check the date stamp, and keep the valve clean and lubricated.
Who it's for
For the airsoft player running HPA who needs to carry air on the field, and for the PCP shooter who wants to fill an air rifle without a hand pump. If you need a pump or compressor to fill the bottle, see pumps and compressors.
