HPA Guns
If you are looking for the most efficient, consistent and quiet setup for airsoft, HPA (High Pressure Air) is the way forward. HPA has really become "the new black" on airsoft sites, because it removes many of the limitations of traditional electric guns (AEG) or gas guns.
We stock a growing range of ready-built HPA rifles as well as equipment to convert your existing replicas to air.
What is HPA, and how does it work?
HPA stands for High Pressure Air. Instead of an internal motor or gas reservoir, the replica is powered by an external air tank (similar to a small scuba tank), which is usually carried in a backpack. The air runs through a line to the replica via a regulator, which makes sure every single shot is fired at exactly the same pressure.
Pros and cons of HPA
As with all high-end gear, there are both advantages and things to consider:
Advantages:
-
Exceptional consistency: Because the regulator delivers the same air pressure every time, you get a very even muzzle velocity, which results in superior accuracy.
-
Adjustable performance: You can quickly adjust your replica's output directly on the regulator to suit the site rules.
-
Quiet operation: HPA replicas have no mechanical noise from gearboxes or motors. That makes them very quiet – especially when combined with a mock suppressor.
-
High rate of fire (ROF): You can achieve a very high and consistent rate of fire that electric systems find hard to match.
Disadvantages:
-
Price: HPA is an investment. The systems are complex, and you need a tank, regulator and line in addition to the replica itself.
-
The line: Some players need to get used to having a line running from the backpack to the rifle.
Conversions and sniper rifles
If you are not ready to buy a complete HPA rifle, there are other ways into the system. Many players choose to convert their manual airsoft sniper rifles to HPA. That gives a sniper rifle that is very easy to cycle (the bolt pull becomes feather-light) and is practically silent – the ultimate advantage for a sniper.
Maintenance and equipment
Although HPA replicas have fewer moving parts than AEGs, maintenance is still important. Keep an eye on your O-rings and lubricate the system regularly with silicone oil from our range of gun care. Also always check your setup with a chronograph when you adjust the pressure, so you are sure to stay within the safety rules.
