About Tokyo Marui M4A1 MWS ZET System, GBBR
The Tokyo Marui M4A1 MWS is a gas blowback rifle (GBBR) built on the M4A1 with an R.A.S. handguard. The bolt cycles back and forth with every shot for strong recoil, and the controls follow the real platform: the first round is chambered with the charging handle, the bolt locks open after the last round, and it is released with the bolt catch after a magazine change. The rifle can also be field-stripped for maintenance much like the real thing.
This version has Tokyo Marui's ZET system, a mechanism that protects the bolt catch against wear and breakage. It is complemented by a piston buffer, a friction-reducing bolt roller and a barrel clamp that keeps the barrel centred despite the recoil. The bolt catch and bolt are exactly the parts that typically wear first on a GBBR with strong blowback. Like all Tokyo Marui guns, the MWS is built to the Japanese energy limits (below 0.98 J), so muzzle velocity is low compared with many other GBBRs on the market.
Gas blowback with ZET system and R.A.S.
What sets the Tokyo Marui M4A1 MWS apart:
- 19 mm blowback piston: The blowback unit uses a piston of approx. 19 mm in diameter – one of the largest in Tokyo Marui's GBBR range – which gives a strong, distinct recoil with every shot.
- ZET system: The bolt catch, piston buffer and bolt roller are designed to withstand the strong blowback over time, where standard GBBRs often see wear on the bolt catch and bolt.
- Metal R.A.S.: The handguard has 20 mm Picatinny rails on all four sides for a light, laser and foregrip, and the heat shield inside the handguard is reproduced.
- Cerakote finish: Upper and lower receiver and bolt are Cerakote-coated, which resists scratches and wear better than ordinary paint.
- Adjustable stock and sights: The stock adjusts in six positions (777–854 mm), and both front and rear sights are adjustable. The muzzle has a 14 mm CCW thread for a mock suppressor or flash hider.
Maintenance and safety
- Tokyo Marui recommends 134a gas. Stronger gas puts extra load on the bolt and magazine valves and can damage the mechanism.
- The aluminium magazine holds 35 rounds. Gas performance drops in the cold, so keep magazines warm, and store them with a little gas in them to keep the seals tight.
- Lightly lubricate the bolt and moving parts with silicone oil after use, and use clean, polished BBs of 0.20–0.25 g as recommended by Tokyo Marui, for example Hank Tactical BIO 0.25 g.
- Always wear approved protection, and transport the rifle without the magazine inserted. Airsoft replicas can be test-fired at our shop in Aulum, Denmark.
