Is there a difference between softgun, airsoft and hardball?
If you haven't been able to find the answer to that question anywhere else, we completely understand. Here it is: a softgun and an airsoft gun are the same thing, and both are used to play airsoft – which in Denmark is often called hardball. On this page we refer to the guns as airsoft guns.
There are several types of airsoft gun to choose from. It is up to you to work out what you will use it for and what you are most comfortable with. If you dream of lying still in the terrain, watching the enemy from a safe distance before taking the decisive – and really the only necessary – shot, look at a manual airsoft gun. If, on the other hand, you dream of charging at the enemy as if it were all or nothing, take a look at our range of electric guns.
Manual guns
These are cocked with a cocking handle or bolt after every single shot. That is not the most practical, but often far cheaper to run than an electric gun. It is often a good idea to start with this type of airsoft gun, as you can practise target shooting at home in the garden.
Electric guns
Electric airsoft guns (AEGs) are available in both full-auto and semi-auto versions. They often have a high rate of fire, as more BBs have to leave the barrel. You could say they let you go full Rambo.
Gas guns
This type of airsoft gun uses gas as the propellant. Be aware, though, that muzzle velocity drops as the gas runs low. Despite that one downside, gas guns are also very practical: you can fill gas and BBs at the same time, which saves you a lot of time on the field.
CO2 guns
A CO2 airsoft gun is a newer part of the airsoft world, and we love it! This type of airsoft gun often has a very high muzzle velocity, and it copes with all kinds of weather, unlike a gas gun, which can struggle when it is too cold outside. If you play in a cold climate, that is worth keeping in mind next time you are looking for a new airsoft gun.
HPA guns
The newest addition to the airsoft world is HPA (high pressure air). An HPA gun consists of a number of different components. The gearbox inside the electric gun is replaced by an air system fed from a tank you carry on your back. When you pull the trigger, air is let into the gun, and that air is used to fire the BB. This gives you a gun with very consistent shots, as it releases the same amount of air every time. An HPA gun makes almost no noise, which means you can finally lie silent and camouflaged in the terrain and live out your wildest sniper fantasy.
