How to upgrade your AEG for different roles (DMR, High Speed, etc.)

An AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) can be adapted to many different playstyles, from precision shots like a DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) to rapid bursts of fire in a high-speed setup. Here's a guide to upgrading your AEG to match your playstyle:

DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle)

A DMR is designed for precision shooting at longer distances.

  • Hop-up and barrel: Upgrade to a precision barrel (6.01-6.03 mm) and a harder hop-up rubber (70° or higher) for better range and accuracy.
  • Spring: Use a stronger spring (e.g. M120-M150) to achieve higher FPS. Remember to check the legislation regarding FPS limits.
  • Mosfet: Install a mosfet with semi-lock function to only be able to fire in semi-automatic, which is often required for DMRs.
  • Gear and motor: High-torque gears and a stronger motor can help pull the heavier spring.
  • Battery: A battery with a higher voltage (e.g. 11.1V LiPo) can provide faster trigger response.

High Speed

High-speed setups are ideal for players who want a high ROF (Rate of Fire).

  • Gear: Use high-speed gear (e.g. 13:1 or 16:1) for faster firing.
  • Motor: A high-speed motor with high RPM can support the speed of the gears.
  • Spring: A lighter spring (e.g. M90-M110) makes it easier for the gear and motor to maintain the high cadence.
  • Battery: A powerful LiPo battery (11.1V) ensures enough power for the fast firing rate.
  • Mosfet: Install a mosfet with active brake to prevent over-rotation and protect the gears.

All-round AEG

For players who want a balanced setup, there are also options:

  • Hop-up and Run: Upgrade to a precision run and hop-up rubber with medium hardness (60°-70°).
  • Gear: Standard gear with 18:1 ratio works well for a balanced ROF.
  • Motor: A medium torque motor provides a good balance between speed and power.
  • Spring: An M100-M120 spring provides stable FPS without unnecessarily straining the gearbox.

Maintenance after upgrades

After upgrades, it is important to check the gearbox and internal parts regularly for wear. Lubricate the gears, cylinder and seals with suitable grease or oil to ensure optimal function.

What should you choose?
The choice of upgrades depends on your role on the field and your preferences. Consider whether you want to focus on accuracy, rate of fire, or a balanced setup, and choose parts accordingly.
