How to upgrade your AEG for different roles (DMR, high speed and more)

An AEG (automatic electric gun) can be adapted to many different playing styles, from precision shots as a DMR (designated marksman rifle) to fast bursts in a high-speed build. Here is a guide to upgrading your AEG to match your playing style:

DMR (designated marksman rifle)

A DMR is built for precision shots at longer ranges.

Hop-up and barrel: Upgrade to a precision barrel (6.01–6.03 mm) and a harder hop-up bucking (70° or above) for better range and accuracy.
Spring: Use a stronger spring (e.g. M120–M150) for higher muzzle velocity. Remember to check the site's muzzle velocity limits.
MOSFET: Fit a MOSFET with a semi-lock function so the gun can only fire semi-auto, which is often required for DMRs.
Gears and motor: High-torque gears and a stronger motor help pull the heavier spring.
Battery: A higher-voltage battery (e.g. 11.1 V LiPo) can give faster trigger response.

High speed (high rate of fire)

High-speed builds are ideal for players who want a high ROF (rate of fire).

Gears: Use high-speed gears (e.g. 13:1 or 16:1) for faster cycling.
Motor: A high-speed motor with high RPM keeps up with the faster gears.
Spring: A lighter spring (e.g. M90–M110) makes it easier for gears and motor to sustain the high rate of fire.
Battery: A powerful LiPo battery (11.1 V) supplies enough current for the high rate of fire.
MOSFET: Fit a MOSFET with active braking to prevent overspin and protect the gears.

All-round AEG

For players who want a balanced setup, there are options too:

Hop-up and barrel: Upgrade to a precision barrel and a medium-hardness hop-up bucking (60°–70°).
Gears: Standard 18:1 gears work well for a balanced ROF.
Motor: A medium-torque motor strikes a good balance between speed and power.
Spring: An M100–M120 spring gives a stable muzzle velocity without putting unnecessary strain on the gearbox.

Maintenance after upgrading

After upgrading, check the gearbox and internal parts regularly for wear. Lubricate gears, cylinder and seals with suitable grease or oil to keep everything working properly.
