What are BIO BBs for airsoft?

When you play airsoft, you of course need ammunition for your gun. One of the many options is BIO BBs. BIO BBs for airsoft are quite simply BBs that are biodegradable. That means that when you have fired, say, 200 BBs in a game of airsoft, they will most likely not be lying on the field the next time you turn up. There are many good reasons to use them, and we go through them here.

Biodegradable BBs are better for the environment

In a great many cases, airsoft is played outdoors, often in fairly scenic areas close to woods, lakes and so on. So it is a really good idea to choose BIO BBs, as they do not litter the area to the same extent as other types of BB might.

You also do something good for the animals in the area by choosing biodegradable BIO BBs for your airsoft gun. Many animals like to graze in these scenic areas when there aren't any battle-hardened airsoft players with noisy rifles and hand grenades nearby. If you shoot BBs made of ordinary plastic, they can unfortunately sometimes end up in the stomachs of those poor animals. By choosing biodegradable BIO BBs, you can help make a difference for nature.

So it is very much about looking after nature. You can do your bit by buying BIO BBs. We all need to look after the nature that gives us so many fantastic game experiences in airsoft.

Different weights for different guns

Like all other types of BB, BIO BBs come in different weights. As a rule of thumb, the heavier the BBs, the more powerful the guns they should be used in. BIO BBs weighing 0.20 g, for example, are ideal for many electric guns, whereas 0.25 g BBs are used in slightly more powerful guns – which can be electric, CO2 or other types.

You can also get BIO BBs all the way up to 0.40 g. These are usually best suited to the most expensive and most powerful guns, for example a sniper rifle capable of shooting exceptionally hard. Remember to check which BB weight suits your own airsoft gun best before you buy BIO BBs.

Always check your site's rules

There are many different airsoft clubs and associations, and so of course there are many different sets of rules. It is very important that you follow the specific rules at each site, or you can quickly land yourself in trouble. We therefore always recommend that you either look up the rules where you play yourself, or contact someone connected with the site.

More and more sites simply require BIO BBs to take part in airsoft. Biodegradable BBs are required in many places precisely out of consideration for nature and the animals in the area, as described above. You may also find that there are requirements for the colour of your BIO BBs. If the BBs need to be fairly well camouflaged after a game, there may for example be a requirement for your biodegradable BBs to be dark in colour, such as green or brown.

Fortunately, it is not hard to find BIO BBs that meet the different rules at different sites. But it is important that you know what is and isn't allowed at the place where you play the world's most fun game.
