About Walther Rotex RM8 Wood PCP, 4.5 mm
The Walther Rotex RM8 Wood is a PCP air rifle in .177 (4.5 mm) calibre with a wooden stock and an 8-shot rotary magazine. The rifle is filled with compressed air from a PCP pump or compressor, and you load by pulling the bolt back and pushing it forward again, after which the magazine indexes to the next shot. Muzzle velocity is up to 305 m/s.
The advantage of PCP over a springer is that there is no moving piston when you fire. The rifle stays completely still through the shot, so accuracy depends more on barrel and trigger than on your technique with a recoiling rifle. The Rotex RM8 is built around exactly those two points: a barrel from Lothar Walther, one of the most respected barrel makers, and an adjustable two-stage trigger. The wooden stock gives the rifle a classic look and good balance.
Walther Rotex RM8 Wood – key features
These are the most important features:
- Lothar Walther barrel: The 500 mm barrel is choked – slightly narrowed towards the muzzle – so the pellet is centred before it leaves the barrel. It is a common solution on precision rifles.
- 8-shot aluminium magazine: The CNC-machined rotary magazine sits in the action and is advanced by the bolt. You can fire eight shots without touching a pellet, which is much quicker than single loading.
- ½" UNF thread: The muzzle is threaded under the muzzle weight, so you can fit a moderator, such as a Hatsan moderator. It is the most effective way to reduce the report of a PCP rifle further.
- Built-in pressure gauge: The gauge shows how much air is left, so you can refill before the pressure drops so far that velocity starts to vary.
- Adjustable two-stage trigger: The first stage takes up the slack, the second stage breaks the shot. The trigger can be adjusted to suit your shooting style.
Maintenance and safety
- Only fill with clean, dry air from a PCP pump, compressor or air tank – for example a Storm Air PCP pump – and never exceed the maximum fill pressure stated in the manual.
- Keep the fill valve clean and covered when the rifle is not being filled, so dirt cannot get into the system.
- Clean the barrel at regular intervals and treat the wooden stock with stock oil as needed.
- Remove the magazine before putting the rifle away. Check the air rifle regulations in your country before purchase. Wear shooting glasses, and store the rifle unloaded and out of reach of children.
