The Gamo GX-40 Whisper shows that Spain's Gamo has firmly entered the upper class of PCP air rifles. You get a compact but powerful PCP air rifle that shoots up to around 380 m/s with standard lead pellets – and up to 475 m/s with Gamo PBA pellets. That makes the GX-40 well suited to both precision shooting and plinking, with good hitting power and low noise.

The GX-40 has an ergonomic synthetic stock that is both light and hard-wearing – well suited to wet weather. The high cheek piece makes it quick and easy to find your sight picture, whether you shoot with optics or open sights. Under the barrel is an integrated air reservoir, easily filled with the included Gamo high-pressure pump. The reservoir also has a pressure gauge, so you always know how much air you have left.

To keep noise down, the GX-40 Whisper has an effective moderator that reduces the muzzle report and makes shooting noticeably more discreet – a real advantage if you shoot in the garden or near neighbours.

The rifle comes with a 10-shot rotary magazine, so you can fire several shots quickly without loading after every shot – useful in both practice and competition.

The GX-40 also has Gamo's CAT trigger (Custom Action Trigger), a two-stage trigger that can be set individually for both first and second stage – a feature normally found on far more expensive rifles. There is also an automatic safety.
