About Crosman Tyro Air Rifle

The Crosman Tyro is a spring-powered break-barrel air rifle in .177 (4.5 mm) calibre, sized for young and smaller shooters. The rifle is 953 mm long, weighs approx. 2240 g and shoots at up to 211 m/s. It is cocked by breaking the barrel and loaded with one diabolo pellet at a time.

Most air rifles are built for adults, and a stock that is too long is one of the most common reasons new shooters end up with a poor shooting position. The Tyro solves this with Crosman's "Grow-With-Me" stock, where spacers can be removed or added so the length of pull follows the shooter. It also needs only approx. 10 kg of cocking effort, considerably less than powerful adult rifles.

Junior rifle with a stock that grows with the shooter

These are the key features:

  • Adjustable length of pull: Removable spacers in the stock let you adjust the length as the shooter grows. The correct length of pull gives a natural cheek weld and a stable shooting position.
  • Easy cocking: Approx. 10 kg cocking effort means smaller shooters can cock the rifle themselves without fighting the spring.
  • Ambidextrous thumbhole stock: The synthetic stock is symmetrical and suits both right- and left-handed shooters. It copes with the weather better than wood and needs almost no maintenance.
  • Rifled steel barrel: The barrel is rifled to stabilise the pellet and is shrouded on the outside. It gives enough accuracy for target shooting at typical garden distances.
  • Fibre-optic front sight and 11 mm rail: The front sight has a fibre-optic element and the rear sight is adjustable. If you want to add a riflescope later, there is an 11 mm dovetail rail.

Maintenance and safety

  • Never fire without a pellet in the barrel. Dry firing puts unnecessary strain on the spring, piston and seals and can shorten the rifle's life.
  • The rifle has a crossbolt safety. Teach the shooter to keep the safety on until the rifle is pointed at the target.
  • Young shooters should always shoot under adult supervision, and only at a safe pellet trap or backstop.
  • Clean the barrel at regular intervals and wipe down the metal parts after use. Check the air rifle regulations in your country, including age limits, before purchase. Wear shooting glasses and store the rifle unloaded.
