About Benchmade 163-1 Bushcrafter

The Benchmade 163-1 Bushcrafter is a robust fixed-blade knife developed specifically for bushcraft, survival and field use in the wild. Designed by Shane Sibert, the knife is built for heavy tasks such as whittling, splitting firewood (batoning), building shelters and preparing food in camp. This updated version has revised blade geometry and adjusted handle ergonomics.

Mechanical strength and a weather-resistant handle

The knife's construction focuses on durability under sustained mechanical load:

  • Solid full-tang construction: With a blade thickness of 4.17 mm, the steel runs continuously through the entire handle. This gives the knife the structural strength needed for demanding tasks in the forest.

  • Layered G10 handle: The handle scales are made of olive green (OD Green) G10 – a glass-fibre material unaffected by moisture, water and temperature changes. The green handle has an underlying red G10 base layer, which gives a discreet visual detail along the edge.

  • Complete leather sheath: The knife comes with a heavy leather belt sheath with an integrated holder for a ferro rod.

Drop-point blade in CPM-S30V steel

The blade is shaped for versatility, wear resistance and controlled cuts:

  • CPM-S30V stainless powder steel (58-60 HRC): The 111.3 mm blade is made of CPM-S30V, which gives a proven balance between long edge retention, mechanical toughness and high corrosion resistance.

  • Practical stonewash finish: The surface has a stonewash treatment that effectively hides scratches, wear and signs of hard use. The drop-point profile gives a good combination of point strength and cutting edge.

Symmetrical, Ambidextrous design

The knife is fully symmetrical and can be carried and used the same way either side, making it suitable for both right- and left-handed users.

The knife is made in the USA at Benchmade's own factory with a focus on tight tolerances and strict material control.
