About Umarex Glock 17 Gen 5
In 2017 Umarex was granted the global licence to make airsoft Glock pistols – the first time ever. Without saying too much, we are fairly sure that every airsoft manufacturer has tried to get a licence to produce "real" Glock replicas. Cybergun holds the Glock rights for French territory, while Umarex holds them for the rest of the world.
The Glock 17 was Gaston Glock's first pistol. In 1980 the Austrian army asked for a new pistol to replace the old Walther P38, and the Austrian Ministry of Defence drew up a list of 17 criteria that a pistol had to meet. The name Glock 17 actually comes from the fact that this pistol was the 17th patent Gaston applied for. Bonus fact: he built a working prototype that met all 17 criteria in only three months.
This model is a Gen 5, the fifth and latest generation of the Glock 17.
The airsoft version is just like the real pistol. Generation 5 has been completely redesigned compared with earlier generations, with an all-new frame where, for example, the finger grooves have been removed for a better hold on the textured grip.
Like the real pistol, it has a polymer frame and a metal slide on top that cycles back and forth when you shoot (blowback).
It is also Ambidextrous, so it can be used by both right- and left-handed shooters.
