Benchmade's Bugout series is one of the most popular folding knife series today. Ultralight, elegant and with the characteristic AXIS lock. But what actually is the difference between the Bugout and the Mini Bugout — and which should you choose?

Both models use the same CPM-S30V steel and the same light Grivory handle. Both are fitted with the AXIS lock. So the main difference is size and weight.
Bugout (535) — the classic model
The Bugout is designed with one idea in mind: maximum functionality with minimum weight. With an 84 mm blade it is robust enough for most tasks, yet light enough that you hardly notice it in your pocket.
It is ideal as a primary EDC knife for people who actively use their knife for carving, cooking, outdoor life or everyday practical tasks. The blade length is comfortable to work with, and it sits discreetly in a jeans pocket.
Mini Bugout (533) — the ultralight choice
The Mini Bugout is made for those who want everything the Bugout offers, but in an even more compact format. With a 64 mm blade and a total weight of only 46 g, it is remarkably light. Ideal for:
• People who prefer a discreet, compact knife in their pocket
• Those who want a backup knife alongside a larger knife
• People who don't use their knife for heavy tasks, but for everyday cutting needs
• Those who want the most compact option with the fewest legal complications (64 mm blade) – always check the knife-carry rules in your country
Our recommendation
Choose the Bugout (535) if you actively use your knife every day, want a knife that can handle varied tasks, and are comfortable with an 84 mm blade length.
Choose the Mini Bugout (533) if you want a minimal footprint in your pocket, mainly want a compact always-with-you knife, and discreet carry is the most important factor.
