Umarex DX17 .177 (4.5 mm) Air Pistol

The Umarex DX17 is a compact, spring-powered air pistol in .177 (4.5 mm) for target shooting at short range, for example at targets in the garden or on an indoor range. The pistol is cocked by hand before each shot by pulling back the serrated slide, and it can shoot both steel BBs from a built-in reservoir and diabolo pellets loaded one at a time.

Spring power makes the DX17 completely self-contained: no gas capsules or air tanks, so the pistol is ready as soon as you have ammunition. The trade-off is low velocity – around 60 m/s – which makes it suited to practising aim, trigger control and handling at close range rather than precision shooting at longer distances. The frame is reinforced polymer, so the pistol weighs only around 436 g and is around 238 mm long.

Maintenance and safety

• Use good-quality 4.5 mm steel BBs in the reservoir, such as Umarex steel BBs, 1500 pcs, and 4.5 mm diabolo pellets for single shots.
• Steel BBs can ricochet off hard surfaces – always shoot at a suitable pellet trap and wear shooting glasses.
• Store the pistol uncocked, with no BBs in the reservoir, and out of reach of children.
