The SparkLabs Wolf is a drop-in HPA engine for V2 gearboxes in which the nozzle is moved electromagnetically rather than by air. The engine and FCU go into the gearbox shell in place of the piston, gears and motor, resulting in an HPA system with only two moving parts and one moving O-ring. The Wolf builds on SparkLabs' earlier Raven engine with an improved nozzle and valve design.
The electromagnetic nozzle is the whole point: on a classic HPA engine the nozzle uses air to cycle back and forth, whereas the Wolf uses no air to reload. The valve is also designed not to waste air after the BB has left the barrel. SparkLabs quotes more than 6500 shots from a 0.8 litre bottle filled to 3000 psi (approx. 207 bar) at 122 m/s with 0.20 g BBs. With no residual air in the barrel, the Wolf is also unusually quiet – if you want more sound, the valve dwell can be increased.
Electromagnetic HPA for V2 gearboxes
These are the technical differences that matter in practice:
- Electromagnetic nozzle: The nozzle uses no air to cycle, so the air in the bottle goes into shooting BBs – giving more shots per fill than engines with an air-driven nozzle.
- Open bolt and closed bolt: You choose in the programming unit. In open bolt the nozzle sits back and chambers the BB just before the shot; in closed bolt it sits forward and feeds the next BB after the shot.
- Self-calibrating FCU: The sensors have no moving parts and calibrate themselves to different gearbox shells, triggers and selector parts. Overcurrent protection on the valve and nozzle guards against accidental short circuits.
- Full programming: Each selector position can be set individually (e.g. full auto, burst, different rates of fire or semi only), and trigger travel and selector thresholds can be adjusted via the removable programming unit.
- Adjustable nozzle stop: The forward travel of the nozzle can be set precisely to your hop-up chamber, so feeding can be tuned instead of shimming your way there.
Maintenance and safety
- The single moving O-ring must be kept lubricated – it is easy to reach, and tools for disassembling the engine are included.
- Close the bottle and depressurise the system before disassembling the replica or adjusting the nozzle stop.
- Always check the velocity with a chronograph after adjusting pressure or valve dwell, so you stay within your site's rules.
- Installation in a V2 gearbox requires experience – our workshop in Aulum, Denmark can install and set up the engine for you.

How many shots do you get per tank?
The Wolf's electromagnetic nozzle uses no air to cycle. The developer has got more than 6,500 shots from a 0.8 L tank at 121 m/s with 0.20 g BBs. Enter your setup and see a realistic estimate.
