Emergency Blanket 130 x 210 cm

This emergency blanket is a classic survival blanket – also known as a rescue blanket – in thin, metallised foil measuring 1300 x 2100 mm. It is large enough to cover an adult completely, but folded up it takes so little space that it can live permanently in the first aid kit, the lid of your rucksack, the car or a pouch on your loadout without you noticing it.

The foil works by reflecting much of the heat the body gives off while keeping wind and rain out. It is heat loss through wind and moisture that quickly chills an injured person, an exhausted hiker or someone waiting for help. An ordinary wool blanket insulates better over long periods, but weighs and takes up many times more – the strength of an emergency blanket is that it is always with you when you suddenly need it.

Why an emergency blanket belongs in every emergency kit:

• Reflects body heat: The metallised surface sends much of the body's heat back towards it and helps limit heat loss while you wait for help or get to shelter.
• Wind- and waterproof foil: The foil lets neither wind nor rain through, and it is the combination of wet clothing and wind that drains the body of heat.
• 1300 x 2100 mm: Large enough to wrap an adult from shoulders to feet, or to lay as a barrier between the body and cold, wet ground.
• Minimal weight and pack size: Folded, the blanket is no bigger than a small packet, so there is no excuse not to carry it on trips, in the car or at the site.
• Several uses: The shiny surface can be used for signalling in bright conditions, and the blanket can serve as a temporary rain cover or windbreak.

Maintenance and safety

• The blanket is intended for single use – replace it once it has been unfolded, and check that the packaging is intact.
• The foil is thin and can be torn or punctured by sharp edges, branches and tools – pack it so it does not sit loose against sharp objects.
• The foil is metallised and can conduct electricity – do not use it near live wires, and keep it away from open flames.
