Chameleon Compound Bow

The EK Archery Chameleon is a small compound bow for children and complete beginners, supplied as a full starter kit. The bow is approx. 850 mm long and has a low draw weight of 10–15 lbs, so it can be drawn fully without the archer having to fight the bow – and that is exactly where good technique is learned.

Many children start with a simple toy bow, but this is a proper compound with cams, sight and arrow rest. The cams give a let-off of approx. 65 %, which means the holding force at full draw drops markedly compared with the peak of the draw. The child can therefore hold steady and aim instead of releasing the string in a hurry because their arms are getting tired.

A starter kit for the youngest archers

This is what the Chameleon is built for:

• Low draw weight: 10–15 lbs. A low weight allows more shots per session without overloading and makes it easier to learn a calm, controlled draw.
• Compound principle: Approx. 65 % let-off. The holding force at full draw is far lower than on a recurve with the same draw weight, which makes the aiming phase calmer.
• Compact length: Approx. 850 mm (33"). A short bow suits a small archer and is easy to take along in the car or out into the garden.
• Everything in the box: Arrow rest, sight, quiver, arm guard, finger rollers, 2 glass-fibre arrows of 660 mm and a target are included.
• Right-handed: The bow is held in the left hand and drawn with the right – check that this suits the child's dominant eye and hand.

Maintenance and safety

• Never dry-fire the bow (shoot without an arrow) – it can damage the limbs, cams and string.
• Check the arrows for cracks before use; a damaged glass-fibre arrow must be discarded.
• Only shoot at a target with a safe backstop and a clear range, and let children shoot under adult supervision.
• Store the bow dry and at room temperature, and give the string a little string wax now and then.
