Benchmade 537SBK-07 Bailout

The Benchmade 537SBK-07 Bailout is the Burnt Copper version with a partially serrated tanto blade in CPM-MagnaCut and a handle in anodised 6061-T6 aluminium. The blade is 85.9 mm long and 2.29 mm thick, the knife weighs 77 g and measures 119.9 mm closed. It is made for everyday use, outdoors and at work, where you regularly need to cut rope and webbing.

Apart from the edge, the 537SBK-07 shares steel, dimensions and handle with the 537BK-07. The serrations nearest the handle are made for fibrous materials such as rope, webbing and netting, where a plain edge tends to slip, while the plain front part of the edge keeps the precision for ordinary cuts. The handle has a diamond texture and copper-coloured anodising.

CPM-MagnaCut, partially serrated edge and AXIS lock

Five features that make the serrated Bailout versatile:

• CPM-MagnaCut (60–62 HRC): A stainless powder steel without chromium carbides in the microstructure. The result is higher toughness and better corrosion resistance than S30V at the same or higher hardness – an advantage on a serrated edge, where the teeth must withstand sideways loads.
• Partially serrated tanto blade: The combination gives two tools in one blade: serrations for rope and fibres and a plain edge near the tip for controlled cuts. The tanto tip is reinforced for piercing hard materials.
• Cerakote coating: A ceramic coating that protects the blade flats against wear and moisture and gives a matt surface where signs of use blend in naturally.
• Diamond-textured 6061-T6 aluminium: Aluminium gives a stiff handle at low weight, and the diamond texture gives more grip than smooth metal. The handle is only 10.41 mm thick.
• AXIS lock and Mini Deep Carry clip: The crossbar lock works the same from both sides, so the knife is Ambidextrous and can be opened and closed one-handed. The clip keeps the knife deep in the pocket.

Maintenance and safety

• Wipe the blade after use, and give the AXIS lock and pivot a drop of knife oil now and then.
• Sharpen the serrations one by one with a round or tapered sharpening rod – a flat stone cannot reach into the serrations.
• Do not use the knife as a pry bar, and keep your fingers clear of the edge when folding the blade with the lock pulled back.
• Check the regulations in your country before carrying the knife in public.
