About Benchmade 537FE-2601 Bailout
The Benchmade 537FE-2601 Bailout is a lightweight folding knife with an 86 mm tanto blade in CPM-S90V and a handle in Taiga Green anodised 6061-T6 aluminium. The blade has an FDE PVD Battlewash finish, and the screws and details are in Burnt Copper. The knife weighs 77 g and measures 119 mm closed, so it is built for everyday carry and use in the field.
The Bailout combines a tanto profile, more often seen on heavier tactical knives, with a slim 10.41 mm aluminium handle. The result is a knife with a strong, straight tip for piercing and scraping that is still light enough to carry every day. The S90V blade holds its edge longer on abrasive materials such as cardboard and rope.
CPM-S90V tanto, aluminium handle and AXIS lock
Five features that define the model:
- CPM-S90V powder steel (59–61 HRC): A stainless super steel with high vanadium content. It offers better wear resistance and edge retention than S30V and clearly better than 440C and D2, but needs more time on the sharpening stone.
- 86 mm tanto blade, 2.29 mm thick: The angled break divides the edge into two straight sections: the front for precise cuts and tip work, the rear for draw cuts. The tip is strong relative to the blade's thickness.
- FDE PVD Battlewash finish: A hard-wearing surface treatment that protects the blade against wear and gives a matte, rugged look.
- 6061-T6 aluminium handle: A stiff, light material that keeps the weight down to 77 g. The anodising protects the surface.
- AXIS lock and Deep Carry clip: The lock operates from both sides, making the knife Ambidextrous in use. The blade can be opened and closed one-handed, and the clip places the knife deep in the pocket.
Maintenance and safety
- Clean the blade after use, and lightly lubricate the lock mechanism with knife oil so the AXIS lock runs smoothly.
- Avoid using the thin tanto tip to pry or lever – it is not a pry bar.
- Pull back the AXIS lock and keep your fingers out of the blade's path when closing the knife.
- Check the knife-carry laws in your country before carrying the knife in public.
