About Benchmade 18060S Adira
The Benchmade 18060S Adira is a folding knife for fishing and wet environments – from preparing bait to cutting line and cleaning smaller fish. It has a partly serrated 98.6 mm drop-point blade in MagnaCut with a Stonewash Polish finish, a Depth Blue Grivory handle with orange details and an AXIS lock with stainless springs. The knife weighs 120 g and is 130 mm closed.
The Adira is the folding knife in the Benchmade Water series and is made for the same environment as the series' fixed blades: salt, slime and moisture. The 18060S is the original Depth Blue version with an orange lanyard that makes the knife easy to pull from your pocket. The darker 18060SBT-01 has a Tempest Gray handle and a Cerakote-coated blade, and the Mini Adira is the shorter version.
MagnaCut, Grivory handle and AXIS lock with stainless springs
Five features that make the Adira a folding knife that can handle water:
- MagnaCut steel (60–62 HRC): Stainless powder steel developed without chromium carbides in its structure. It gives better corrosion resistance and toughness than S30V at the same hardness, and the steel is also relatively easy to resharpen.
- Partly serrated drop-point, 2.9 mm: The drop-point shape gives a versatile edge with good control, while the serrations near the handle bite into rope, net and braided line where a plain edge slips.
- AXIS lock with stainless springs: Benchmade's crossbar lock works the same from both sides, so the knife is Ambidextrous, and you do not have to put your finger in front of the edge to close it, as you do with a liner lock. The stainless springs are chosen to resist salt water.
- Grivory handle: Glass-fibre reinforced polyamide that is light and stiff, does not absorb water and does not become slippery when wet. The handle is 16.84 mm thick.
- Deep Carry clip and orange lanyard: The knife rides deep in the pocket, and the orange lanyard gives a quick grip to pull on and makes the knife visible if it is dropped in the boat.
Maintenance and safety
- Rinse the knife in fresh water after salt water, dry it thoroughly and give the AXIS lock and pivot a drop of knife oil. Avoid the dishwasher – damage from it is not covered by the warranty.
- Do not use the knife as a pry bar or screwdriver – a folding blade is made for cutting, not twisting.
- Keep your fingers away from the edge when folding the blade in: pull the AXIS lock back and guide the blade all the way in with control.
- Check the regulations in your country before carrying the knife in public.
