About Benchmade 18050 Intersect

The Benchmade 18050 Intersect is a compact fixed-blade knife in Depth Blue, made for fishing, paddling and as an EDC on trips. The 68.1 mm drop-point blade is in MagnaCut with a stonewash finish and a plain edge all the way, and the handle is Santoprene. The knife is 166 mm long, weighs 67 g and comes with a low-profile sheath.

The Intersect is the smallest knife in the Benchmade Water series and is intended as the knife that is always within reach – on your pack, belt, in your pocket or around your neck. The 18050 is the version with a fully plain edge, which gives the cleanest cuts in bait, fish and food and is the easiest to keep sharp. If the knife will mainly be cutting rope and braided line, the sister model 18050S has a partly serrated edge.

MagnaCut, compact drop-point and low-profile sheath

Five features that make the Intersect a light knife for the water and the trail:

  • MagnaCut steel (60–62 HRC): Stainless powder steel developed without chromium carbides in its structure. It gives better corrosion resistance and toughness than S30V at the same hardness, and the steel is also relatively easy to resharpen.
  • 68.1 mm drop-point blade with plain edge: A versatile blade shape with a strong point and good control in short cuts. A plain edge cuts more cleanly than a serrated one and can be sharpened on an ordinary whetstone.
  • 3.05 mm fixed blade: Without a lock and pivot there are fewer places for salt, sand and fish slime to collect, and the knife is quick to rinse clean. The stock handles heavier work than a thin fillet blade.
  • Santoprene handle: A rubbery material made of EPDM rubber and thermoplastic that gives a firm grip in wet and cold weather. The slim 15.88 mm handle keeps the knife flat and discreet on your gear.
  • Low-profile sheath: The sheath can be attached to pockets, belts and packs or worn around the neck, so the knife is quick to reach.

Maintenance and safety

  • Rinse the knife in fresh water after use, wash it by hand and dry it thoroughly – a dishwasher can cause damage that Benchmade's warranty does not cover.
  • Do not use the knife as a pry bar or screwdriver – the short blade is made for cutting, not twisting.
  • Push the knife fully into the sheath and check it is secure before wearing it around your neck or on your gear.
  • Fixed-blade knives are often subject to stricter rules than folding knives – check the regulations in your country before transporting or carrying it in public.
