About Maple Leaf Hop Tensioner
The Maple Leaf Hop Tensioner is a hop-up nub for AEGs, developed for Maple Leaf's own AEG hop-up buckings. It sits between the hop-up arm and the bucking and is the part that presses the bucking down onto the BB, giving it the backspin that provides lift and range. This is the black, solid version with a cylindrical top and a flat base that sits stably in the hop-up arm.
Many AEGs come with a small, hard stock nub that presses on a relatively small area of the bucking. This can give uneven or off-centre pressure, and with it BBs that drift to the side or vary in height. A tensioner with a larger contact area spreads the pressure more evenly across the bucking, so backspin is more consistent from shot to shot. That makes it one of the most common and cheapest upgrades when you are replacing the hop-up bucking anyway – especially if you use Maple Leaf buckings such as the Macaron or MR-Hop, which the tensioner is designed for.
Hop-up nub for more consistent backspin
These are the tensioner's key features:
- Wider contact area: The cylindrical top presses over a larger area of the bucking than a small stock nub, giving more even pressure on the BB.
- Made for Maple Leaf buckings: The shape is matched to Maple Leaf's AEG hop-up buckings, so tensioner and bucking work together as a system.
- Solid construction: The solid black version gives firm, direct pressure – unlike Maple Leaf's hollow OHM version, which is softer and gives more.
- Stable base: The flat base sits level in the hop-up arm and reduces the risk of the nub tilting or sitting off-centre while you adjust.
- Cheap upgrade: A small job that often does more for accuracy than more expensive parts. Our workshop in Aulum, Denmark can fit it together with a new hop-up bucking.
Maintenance and safety
- Depending on the hop-up chamber, the tensioner may need slight trimming before it sits correctly – test fit before you cut.
- Turn the hop-up all the way down after fitting, then adjust it up gradually until the BB flies flat.
- Set the hop-up with the BBs you play with – for example Hank Tactical BIO 0.28 g or 0.30 g – as BB weight affects the correct setting.
- Always wear eye protection when test-firing the gun after fitting.
