Benchmade 940-1 Osborne

The Benchmade 940-1 Osborne is a lightweight folding knife for everyday carry (EDC), based on Warren Osborne's classic design platform. This upgraded premium version replaces the traditional aluminium handle with carbon fibre and is fitted with a hard-wearing CPM-S90V super steel, bringing the total weight below 70 g without compromising structural strength.

Carbon fibre handle and blue anodised details

The knife's exterior materials and construction are chosen with a focus on minimal weight and high durability:

• Genuine carbon fibre handle: The handle is machined from carbon fibre, giving a stiff, temperature-stable and light construction. At only 11.18 mm thick, the knife takes up minimal space in the pocket.

• Blue anodised backspacers: The spine of the knife is held together by blue anodised aluminium barrel spacers, which give a discreet visual contrast to the dark carbon fibre handle.

• Low carry weight: The total weight is 69.17 g, making the model well suited to daily carry where low weight is a priority.

Reverse tanto blade in CPM-S90V powder steel

The blade geometry and steel are optimised for tasks that demand maximum edge retention and tip strength:

• CPM-S90V super steel (59–61 HRC): The 86.4 mm blade is made from CPM-S90V stainless powder steel. With a high vanadium content (approx. 9%), this steel offers markedly higher resistance to wear and dulling than standard steels, which means the knife stays sharp for a very long time.

• Reverse tanto profile: The blade is a functional reverse tanto, 2.92 mm thick with a light satin finish. The profile combines a regular cutting edge with a reinforced tip that withstands vertical loads.

AXIS® Lock and fully Ambidextrous

The lock mechanism is Benchmade's mechanical AXIS® Lock, which locks the blade open via a crossbar. The system works the same from the right and left side of the handle, allowing controlled one-handed opening and closing. Because the pocket clip can also be moved, the knife is fully Ambidextrous and works for both right- and left-handed users.

The knife is made in the USA at Benchmade's own factory in Oregon.
