About Benchmade 539GY Anonimus
The Benchmade 539GY Anonimus is a fixed-blade knife for bushcraft, hunting and longer trips in the woods. The 127 mm drop-point blade is CPM-CruWear with a grey Cerakote finish, the handle is OD Green G10, and the knife comes with a Boltaron sheath. Overall length is 250 mm, and the weight is 168 g.
The Anonimus is built as a versatile, low-profile work knife with an integrated finger guard and a precision-ground striking surface. The 539GY combines the very tough CruWear steel with a subdued colour combination of grey and olive green.
CPM-CruWear, G10 handle and Boltaron sheath
Five features that make the Anonimus a tough outdoor knife:
- CPM-CruWear powder steel (63–65 HRC): A tool steel known for high toughness combined with good wear resistance. It handles heavier work in wood and game better than many stainless steels at the same hardness – but CruWear is not stainless and must be kept dry and oiled.
- Grey Cerakote finish: The ceramic coating protects the blade flats against moisture and wear – important on a steel that is not stainless.
- 127 mm drop-point blade, 2.90 mm thick: The length gives reach for carving, cooking and game, and the tip gives good control. At 2.90 mm, the blade is relatively thin for an outdoor knife of this size, which gives low cutting resistance.
- OD Green G10 handle with finger guard: G10 is a glass-fibre laminate that does not soak up water and keeps its grip in wet weather. The handle is 17.27 mm thick, and the finger guard stops your hand sliding forward onto the edge. The shape works in both the right and left hand (Ambidextrous).
- Boltaron sheath with ferro rod holder: Thermoformed plastic that holds the knife securely without absorbing moisture like leather. The sheath has room for a ferro rod.
Maintenance and safety
- Wipe the blade after use and give it a thin coat of oil – CruWear is not stainless. Let the knife and sheath dry separately if they have been wet.
- Do not use the knife as a pry bar or screwdriver – nor the tip, which is the thinnest and most vulnerable part of the blade.
- Keep the knife in its sheath when not in use, and cut away from your body when carving and working wood.
- Fixed-blade knives are subject to stricter rules than folding knives – check the regulations in your country before transporting or carrying one in public.
