About Benchmade 537-09 Bailout

The Benchmade 537-09 Bailout is a slim, light folding knife with a tanto blade and a Carbon Fiber handle. The blade is 85.9 mm long, 2.29 mm thick and made from M390 with a satin finish. At 62 g and 119.9 mm closed, it is built for everyday carry and for tasks outdoors and at work where a strong tip is an advantage.

The Bailout builds on the Bugout platform, but with a tanto profile and a slightly longer blade. The 537-09 stands apart from the Cerakote-coated aluminium and Grivory versions with its combination of a bright satin blade and a carbon fibre handle – a stiff, light material that gives the knife a more premium look without adding weight.

M390, Carbon Fiber handle and tanto blade

Five features that define the carbon fibre Bailout:

  • M390 super steel (58–61 HRC): A stainless powder steel with fine, hard carbides that give long edge retention and very high corrosion resistance. It is an obvious choice for a knife used daily, but it needs diamond or ceramic stones for sharpening.
  • 85.9 mm tanto blade: The tanto profile gives a reinforced tip and a straight front edge that is effective for piercing and cutting hard materials such as plastic packaging, cable ties and thick cardboard.
  • Satin finish: An uncoated, finely ground blade with no coating to wear off, where scratches can be polished out. Together with the corrosion resistance of M390, it needs very little care.
  • Carbon Fiber handle: Carbon fibre is stiff and very light and has a slight texture under the fingers. The handle is 10.41 mm thick and lies flat in the pocket.
  • AXIS lock and Mini Deep Carry clip: The crossbar lock works the same from both sides, so the knife is Ambidextrous and can be opened and closed one-handed. The clip keeps the knife deep and discreet in the pocket.

Maintenance and safety

  • Wipe the blade after use, and give the AXIS lock and pivot a drop of knife oil now and then.
  • Do not use the tanto tip as a pry bar or screwdriver – it is reinforced, but the blade is still only 2.29 mm thick.
  • Keep your fingers clear of the edge when folding the blade, and guide it all the way closed with the lock pulled back.
  • Check the regulations in your country before carrying the knife in public.
