About Benchmade 535TN-11 Bugout

The Benchmade 535TN-11 Bugout is an ultralight EDC folding knife with a Dark Olive Grivory handle and an 82.2 mm drop-point blade in CPM-S30V. The blade is 2.29 mm thick, the knife weighs just 51 g and measures 107.2 mm closed. It is just as much at home in the pocket for everyday use as in a rucksack when hunting or hiking.

The Grivory versions are the lightest in the Bugout series, and at 51 g the 535TN-11 sits around 20 g below the aluminium models. The combination of S30V and Grivory makes it a practical Bugout for anyone who wants to maintain the edge themselves: the steel takes sharpening more easily than M390 and S90V, and the olive green colour blends naturally with hunting and outdoor gear.

CPM-S30V, Dark Olive Grivory and AXIS lock

Five features that make the knife easy to carry and easy to maintain:

  • CPM-S30V powder steel (58–60 HRC): A stainless knife steel with a good balance between wear resistance and toughness. Compared with a harder steel such as MagnaCut or M4 it gives slightly shorter edge retention, but it is easier to touch up in the field with a small pocket stone.
  • 82.2 mm drop-point blade: A versatile blade shape with a strong tip that gives control when, for example, skinning small game, cutting cord and cooking outdoors. At 2.29 mm thick, the blade cuts with low resistance.
  • Grivory handle: Glass-fibre reinforced polyamide is lighter than aluminium and feels warmer than metal in the cold. The handle is 10.67 mm thick and lies flat in the pocket.
  • AXIS lock: The crossbar lock works the same from both sides, so the knife is Ambidextrous, and the blade can be opened and closed one-handed – even with gloves on.
  • Mini Deep Carry clip: The clip places the knife deep in the pocket, so it sits securely and discreetly. Together with the 51 g, you will hardly notice it during the day.

Maintenance and safety

  • Wipe the blade after use, and give the AXIS lock and pivot a drop of knife oil now and then – especially after rain, snow and blood.
  • Do not use the knife as a pry bar or screwdriver – a 2.29 mm thin blade is made to cut, not to twist.
  • Keep your fingers clear of the edge when folding the blade, and guide it all the way closed with the lock pulled back.
  • Check the regulations in your country before carrying the knife in public.
