About GATE Pulsar H Hybrid HPA Engine without ETU

The GATE Pulsar H is a hybrid HPA engine with one solenoid valve, fitted in the gearbox in place of the cylinder, piston and cylinder head, so your AEG replica is driven by compressed air rather than spring and gears. This version is supplied without ETU: you pair the engine yourself with an HPA-compatible GATE control unit – the manufacturer recommends the TITAN II Bluetooth EXPERT for V2 or the ASTER II Bluetooth EXPERT for V2 or V3 in HPA version.

The Pulsar H sits between the simple Pulsar S and the dual-valve Pulsar D. GATE calls the principle a two-stage hybrid open-bolt system: the nozzle movement is separated from the air pulse itself, so the engine works more consistently than a classic single-valve engine, while keeping the open-bolt advantage without the empty first shot you can experience with closed-bolt engines. At the same time, it is less sensitive to the precision of the replica and installation than the Pulsar S – and cheaper to build with than a Pulsar D.

Why choose the Pulsar H

The technical points behind the engine:

  • Two-stage hybrid open bolt: Nozzle cycle and air supply are separated, which according to GATE gives more stable performance than a traditional single-valve open bolt, where nozzle and shot are controlled by the same air pulse.
  • Greater tolerance in installation: Where the Pulsar S requires very precise axial alignment between engine and hop-up chamber, the Pulsar H is considerably more tolerant – an advantage in replicas where the gearbox does not sit quite perfectly.
  • Up to 40 RPS without loss of performance: The rate of fire is controlled from 1 to 40 rounds per second via the ETU, and GATE states no drop in muzzle velocity on AUTO compared with SEMI. Actual feeding depends on the magazine.
  • Dedicated nozzles in AEG lengths: The Pulsar H uses its own nozzles, but the lengths correspond directly to the AEG nozzle, so if your replica requires 21.40 mm, you choose the matching Pulsar H nozzle. Nozzles for M4/M16, SR25 and AK are available separately.
  • Compact and air-efficient: The engine measures 116 × 25.4 mm and weighs 92 g. Air consumption is approx. 1 PSI per shot at 90 PSI with a 0.8 l/300 bar tank – on a par with the Pulsar S.

Maintenance and safety

  • Installing an HPA engine requires experience: the gearbox must be emptied, the engine placed fully forward against the front wall of the gearbox, and wires and air line routed without being pinched. We are happy to fit and set it up in our workshop in Aulum, Denmark.
  • Only use high-pressure air via a regulator, and keep the operating pressure within 60–140 PSI (approx. 4.1–9.7 bar) – higher pressure can damage the engine. GATE recommends, for example, PolarStar MRS, Redline SFR or Wolverine STORM as regulators. The control unit and solenoid valve are powered by a small 7.4 V battery.
  • The air line has a 6 mm outer diameter and M5×0.8 thread in the engine. A QD fitting (US/EU) is not included and must be bought for your system.
  • GATE advises against silicone buckings with Pulsar engines, because they wear faster and change properties with temperature swings. Rubber buckings such as Maple Leaf Mr. Hop, Madbull Blue, TNT Black with nub or G&G green typically work well. Clean the engine preventively about every six months or in case of malfunctions. The solenoid valve seals are delicate, so only wipe the valve gently – and avoid grease on the flat rear face of the nozzle and at the bottom of the cylinder, as it can stop the nozzle moving.
