About Prometheus Hard Reversal Latch, V2/V3

The Prometheus Hard Reversal Latch is a reinforced anti-reversal latch for Version 2 and Version 3 AEG gearboxes. The small arm locks the bevel gear so the gears cannot run backwards when the piston is left cocked after a shot – a small part with a central function in the gearbox.

The anti-reversal latch is one of the parts that most often breaks in an upgraded gearbox, because it takes the full recoil from a compressed spring. If it breaks, the gearbox can lock up or damage gears and motor. Prometheus' hard version is made precisely to remove that point of failure: according to the supplier, it normally lasts 100,000 shots or more.

Why it is worth replacing

What the Prometheus Hard Reversal Latch gives you:

  • Built to last: The supplier specifies a lifetime of 100,000+ shots under normal conditions – considerably more robust than the standard latches in many factory gearboxes.
  • V2 and V3 compatible: Fits Version 2 gearboxes (M4/AR-15, MP5 and others) and Version 3 gearboxes (AK, G36 and others), so one part covers the most widely used platforms.
  • Removes a classic point of failure: A broken latch is a common cause of gearboxes locking up. Replacing it preventively during a rebuild is cheap compared with a repair afterwards.
  • Good for upgraded builds: Stronger springs and faster motors put more load on the latch when the cycle stops. A hard latch is a natural choice alongside an upgraded spring or new motor.
  • From Prometheus: Prometheus is known for inner barrels, hop-up buckings and gearbox parts, and their parts are widespread in upgraded AEGs.

Maintenance and safety

  • Always decock the gearbox before stripping – remove the battery and fire so the spring is not compressed when the latch is removed.
  • Fit the latch and spring in the correct position, and check that the latch engages the bevel gear teeth before closing the gearbox.
  • Do not lubricate the latch with grease that can collect dirt – a thin film at the pivot point is enough.
  • Our workshop in Aulum, Denmark can fit it as part of a service or upgrade.
