About GNP Bore Cleaning Foam, 100 ml

GNP Bore Cleaning Foam is a bore-cleaning foam in a spray can that you spray into the barrel, where it expands and fills the entire bore. The foam clings to the bore wall while it works, and according to the manufacturer the barrel is clean after about 10 minutes. The 100 ml can is compact enough for the cleaning kit or range bag.

The advantage of foam over a liquid bore cleaner is contact time: liquid runs out of a barrel standing vertically or at an angle, while foam stays put and can work along the whole length of the barrel, including the rifling. That makes cleaning less dependent on many passes with patches. GNP lists the product as suitable for all types of firearms as well as air and gas-powered guns.

GNP Bore Cleaning Foam – key features

What you need to know about the foam:

  • Foam with long contact time: Stays in the barrel and penetrates microscopic irregularities in the steel, where carbon and metal residues stick – more effective per application than a liquid that runs out.
  • Dissolves copper, lead, zinc and carbon: One product for both fouling and the metal deposits that build up from bullets and shot.
  • Leaves a thin protective oil film: When you have pulled the foam out, according to the manufacturer a light oil film remains that protects the barrel against corrosion.
  • No ammonia or abrasives: Classic copper solvents are often ammonia-based and require a short, carefully controlled working time. According to the manufacturer, GNP's formula is free from ammonia, alcohol and abrasive particles.
  • Broad material tolerance: Listed as gentle on steel, aluminium, chrome, nickel as well as wood, varnish, rubber and plastic – handy if a little foam runs out onto the stock.

Maintenance and safety

  • Put a plug or cloth in one end, fill the barrel with foam, let it work for about 10 minutes, and pull it out with a patch, wad or pull-through cleaner until it comes out clean.
  • The can is pressurised and contains flammable propellant: keep it away from heat, sparks and open flames, and never spray towards a flame.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection, and work in a ventilated room – follow the hazard labelling on the can.
  • For airsoft, the foam is not used in the inner barrel with the hop-up fitted – an airsoft barrel is best cleaned dry or with a lightly moistened cloth.
