About FX 6-18x44 SFIR Riflescope

The FX 6-18x44 SFIR is a riflescope with 6-18x magnification, a 44 mm objective, side parallax and an illuminated reticle. It is aimed at shooters who mainly shoot at medium and long air rifle distances – field target, target shooting and precision shots on pest species – where high magnification and precise parallax adjustment matter more than a wide field of view.

The scope is built on a 30 mm tube, which leaves room for larger lenses and more internal adjustment range than a traditional 25.4 mm (1") tube. Parallax is set on the side of the scope, so you do not need to break your shooting position to reach the objective. That makes the scope well suited to FX's regulated PCP rifles, but it mounts with ordinary 30 mm rings on any suitable rail.

What sets the SFIR apart from an AO scope

The name stands for side focus and illuminated reticle – and those are exactly the two things that make the difference in practice.

  • Side parallax from close range: Parallax is set on a side turret and, according to the supplier, can be adjusted down to approx. 8 m. This is quicker and more stable than turning the objective ring on an AO scope.
  • Side wheel included: A larger side wheel is included and can be fitted to the parallax turret. The larger diameter makes fine adjustment easier and allows you to mark distances.
  • 30 mm tube: The larger tube gives better light transmission and a clear image, and a larger adjustment range than 25.4 mm tubes – an advantage at high magnification and long distances.
  • 6-18x magnification: Starts higher than a 3-12x scope and therefore gives more detail at long range, where small shifts in point of impact need to be visible.
  • 7-step illuminated reticle: The reticle can be illuminated at seven brightness levels, so it can be matched to everything from dusk to a dark forest floor without dazzling.

Maintenance and safety

  • Clean the lenses with a soft lens cloth or brush – blow or brush off dust and sand first so it does not scratch the coating.
  • Use lens caps during transport and storage, and let the scope acclimatise when bringing it from the cold into the warm, to avoid fogging.
  • Tighten the scope rings evenly and no tighter than the ring manufacturer recommends – overtightening can deform the tube.
  • Switch off the illumination after use, and remove the battery for longer storage.
