FX DRS MKII Base Compact, PCP, .177 (4.5 mm)

The FX DRS MKII Base Compact is the shortest action in the second generation of FX's DRS platform: action, trigger and a 500 mm barrel in .177 (4.5 mm) – without a stock. Without a stock the action measures 617 mm and weighs 1500 g, making it an obvious starting point for a short, light PCP rifle for hunting from a hide, pest control, or shooters who move a lot in the field.

As on all DRS models, the reservoir is built into the barrel shroud – what FX calls APB (Air Pressure Barrel). This gives a low profile with no bottle under the barrel, and the Compact version holds 210 cc of air at up to 230 bar. New on the MKII is that the liners can be changed without emptying the system of air, and that a 30 MOA Picatinny rail is fitted from the factory. Cocking is by a sidelever on the right from a 16-shot magazine.

Key features of the MKII Base Compact

The Compact shares its technology with the longer MKII versions; the difference is barrel length, air and weight.

• Short, light action: With a 500 mm barrel and 1500 g, the Compact is the lightest MKII Base – an agile rifle once the stock and riflescope are fitted.
• Liner change without degassing: The Superior liner with Smooth Twist X (STX) rifling can be removed and changed without emptying the barrel shroud of air. On the first generation, the pressure had to be released first.
• 25 cc power plenum: The plenum between regulator and valve is 25 cc and larger than on its predecessor, giving better efficiency with heavier projectiles.
• Adjustable AMP regulator and hammer spring: The AMP MKII regulator is adjusted from the outside, and with the stock removed the hammer spring preload can be set. This lets pressure and air volume be matched precisely to your diabolo or slug.
• 30 MOA Picatinny rail: The rail is inclined 30 MOA forward, so the riflescope keeps more elevation travel for longer range. Picatinny gives a wide choice of mounts compared with an 11 mm dovetail rail.

Maintenance and safety

• Only fill with clean, dry compressed air via the fill port on the right, and do not exceed 230 bar.
• Inspect the O-rings at the fill port, liner and magazine regularly, and replace them when worn.
• Adjust the regulator and hammer spring in small steps, and check the result with a chronograph.
• Store the action unloaded and out of reach of children. Check the air rifle regulations in your country before purchase.
