Jefftron MPPE Insulated Wire (16 AWG), 2 pcs

Jefftron MPPE-insulated wire is a set of 16 AWG wires – one black and one red – for rewiring airsoft replicas. The wire comes from Alpha Wire (EcoWire series) and has a conductor cross-section of 1.3 mm² with an outer diameter of just 2.06 mm. According to Jefftron, the price per set covers 1 m of black and 1 m of red wire, supplied in one piece.

16 AWG is a common gauge when upgrading an AEG or an HPA control unit to lower resistance than the thin wires often fitted at the factory. The challenge is space: heavy wire with thick silicone insulation can be hard to route through the gearbox and down into the stock. MPPE insulation is much thinner, so you get thicker copper without the wire taking up more space.

Why MPPE insulation

The advantages over PVC and silicone wire:

• Thin, tough insulation: MPPE (modified polyphenylene ether, Noryl) is tougher than PVC, so the insulation can be made thinner than on both PVC and silicone wire – hence the small 2.06 mm outer diameter.
• 16 AWG (1.3 mm²): A lower AWG number means a thicker conductor and less resistance – relevant for faster response and less voltage drop between battery, MOSFET and motor.
• Wide temperature range: Operating temperature from -40 to 105 °C, so the wire handles both winter games and heat from the motor and soldering.
• Lighter and more flame-retardant: Jefftron highlights MPPE as lighter and more flame-retardant than PVC.
• Halogen- and heavy-metal-free: The insulation contains no halogens or heavy-metal pigments, which makes it easier to comply with the WEEE requirements for electronic waste.

Maintenance and safety

• Always disconnect the battery before working on the wiring.
• Use wire strippers of the right size – the thin insulation makes it easy to cut into the copper strands with the wrong grip.
• Tin the wire ends and use heat-shrink on all joints, so there is no risk of a short circuit in the gearbox.
